There's actually a reason why the old signals here were positioned the way they were. In Picture 20, you can see a second track that ends before the crossing.
That track used to go through the crossing, and as a result, the first signal had to be positioned where it is because there wasn't any room between the road and tracks originally.
The stop sign was also placed where it is for the same reason, though should be moved next to the stop line on the side street now that the second track was truncated.
For some reason though, the FRA still claims that two tracks cross here.
Of course, with the new signals, CSX installed a new gated signal on the right-hand side, and Adairsville moved the stop sign over there as well.
