This crossing is located on the CN Matteson Sub, formerly the EJ&E
Eastern Sub. UP and BNSF have trackage rights on this line as
well.
This is 1 of only 2 crossings near Joliet on the Eastern Sub not to be a quiet zone; Cherry Hill Rd. being the other.
These signals were not installed at
the same time. The signals here before were similar signals with
12"x24" Safetran incandescents, Safetran gate mechanisms, and a
Safetran mechanical bell. The northern signal was replaced first
when the double track was in the process of being put in in early
2011. In late 2011, the southern signal was replaced with the
gated signal and cantilever setup.
