The signals are in action! Unfortunately the mechanical bell only rings when the gates are in motion, both going up and down.

This crossing is also in a quiet zone. Trains aren't allowed by law to sound their horns at this crossing, unless it's an emergency.

On a return visit on November 21, 2008, there were a lot of tire tracks near one signal. I guess it was wiped out somehow... Anyways, instead of adding a new signal, UP took what they had and rebuilt the signal using a very tall mast, while keeping the same bell, and 12"x20" lights. The gate mechanism was totaled though, so a WCH gate mechanism is now running here.

Also notice that the lights are now facing in different directions. Compare picture 11 with picture 3. The reasoning behind this is unknown.

As mentioned before, the lights took a bit of a beating, but are still in fairly good shape.

The gate took a bit of a beating too. It's a bit bent, but was good enough for UP to reuse it.

The crossbuck was reused, although a new 2 tracks sign was added.

An overview on the activated crossing.

There is another change to this crossing that cannot be seen. For some weird reason, UP has changed their rules regarding bells. Now, instead of ringing from startup to when the gates fully lower, and when the gates rise, the bell now rings from startup to shutdown!

Sometime around March 2010, the WRRS bell was removed, and replaced with a WCH type 2 electronic bell. The new bell still sounds from startup until shutdown.

These pictures were taken on June 4, 2010.

On October 6, 2010 there have been a few changes... First off, the signal shown in picture 40 is completely new. The old signal was probably knocked down, and UP put up this brand new signal, completely with WCH parts, including 2nd generation LEDs.

43

44

45

46

There is a WCH gate guard seen in picture 46, and the gate lights shown here are Alstom-Aurora clear LED lights.

54

The other signal is nearly the same as it was, with the exception of UP LEDs replacing the incandescent lights in the 12"x20" frames, and the gate lights changing to Alstom-Aurora clear LED gate lights.

55

56

57

The shear pin is missing here, which means that someone hit the gate previously, and UP has not replaced the pin yet. The workings of the gate guard as seen underneath on the 12"x20" signal.

A return visit in March 2024 by UPking shows that the new WCH gate was knocked down by a truck and replaced with an Invensys gate mechanism.
A new accident occured in 2014 ruining this crossing's clean track record. This was the accident that destroyed the old new signal in photos 39-57.
