Pictures 1-19 were taken on November 19, 2023, by Highball Artist.
This crossing is located on the Plymouth & Lincoln Railroad
Winnipesaukee Subdivision.
Page created by Highball Artist (with MikeRXRTools 1.0.2).
This crossing and associated street were constructed in 2003. This
street previously crossed the track via an overhead bridge about 800
feet north of here. The bridge eventually deteriorated to the point of
no return, and a new outlet to Route 3/Union Ave was built crossing the
tracks via this crossing. A new pedestrian-only bridge was constructed
at the site of the condemned bridge.I am unsure if the Dialight ball
LEDs are original to the install or if
the crossing originally had Safetran fading LEDs like the others in
Laconia, but they have been here since at least 2013, so they could be
original, which, interestingly, would make them some of the
earliest such lights produced. Note the white strobe light atop the
mast, which flashes when the signals are active.
This crossing is operated by the P&L (DBA Granite State Scenic
Railway, formerly Hobo & Winnipesaukee
Scenic Railroads), but It should be noted excursions from Meredith only
operate into downtown Laconia on Sundays in the summer months, and for
other special occasions and equipment moves.
