Starting off as Pleasantville, the name would be changed to McComb in 1858 to avoid confusion with another town being named Pleasantville (the current day one being where the KNWA runs through). The name may look spelled wrong, but the town is named for Alexander Macomb. The 2nd man to serve as the Commanding General of the United States Army. Norfolk Southern's Fostoria District runs through the town today. B&O had a route running through the town from Deshler to Findlay until the late 20th century.
