Re: signals in the media

In Driving Miss Daisy, there's a brief scene where they drive over tracks and you can see the signals and bell. It's about 2:33 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqUC-KP2YYs&t=187s Not sure if this counts, but an update to this. I was watching this other scene of Driving Miss Daisy here: https:...

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

Some older masts at this NJ crossing... also just behind the trees is a small older looking house, I wonder if it had anything to do with the railroad?

Re: Encounters With Others At Railroad Crossings

2:Arlington Ave, Independence, MO a guy in a red truck parked his truck in the middle of the road and began harassing me, threatening to break my camera, as well as wanting to kill me all because I was filming trains (I'm not making it up, the guy was wanting to fight me and kill me). I retaliated ...

Re: Database/telling age of crossings?

The FRA has a database of every current (and technically former) crossing in the US, as long as you know the DOT numbers for the crossings you're curious about. However, it doesn't go into specifics of the equipment each crossing has, just what type of equipment can be found there. Also, the inform...

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

Looks like a while since any trains came through here. Most likely a phosphate spur. https://www.google.com/maps/@27.7407726,-81.9486229,3a,50.1y,164.21h,83.91t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7gcazgh7BoRbLvDEDAYH3w!2e0!7i16384!8i8192 Maybe some older signage here with "Look Out for the Cars": https://www.googl...

Re: Encounters With Others At Railroad Crossings

I've wondered about what would happen if I was to take pictures or videos at railroad crossings. I could try crossings though where there's less traffic or nobody would be around.

Database/telling age of crossings?

Is there a database anywhere that tells when railroad crossings were installed or updated over the years or accidents, etc? I'm always curious of when certain crossings were installed or first signal-ized, but I don't have the expertise to tell yet. I know if it has 8" signals, that means it must be...

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

Ah... The CSX Lineville Sub. Would love to visit the parts of the line from Lineville, AL, eastwards, especially if even half of the stuff street view shows is still there. Went further east (onto what appears to be the CSX Fitzgerald Subdivision) and found this active crossing: https://www.google....

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

Wow some of those crossings have cat eye reflector signs! I've seen those pointy caps on some signal posts. Are those a thing that only older signals had?
