Re: Retractable gate

Huh. I'm surprised to see an RR use that in Wisconsin, given the troubles ice and snow have had on various crossing signal equipment.
Depending on the construction or activation mechanism, somehow I could see ice, snow, and cold combining to either cause the gate not to extend on lowering, or ...

Retractable gate

Yesterday, while chasing an empty grain train with BNSF run-through power (heading for the DeLong Company elevator at Avalon), I decided to go to a crossing I'd never shot at before on the Wisconsin & Southern Prairie du Chien Subdivision (Park St. in Middleton, WI). Although the lights have long ...

Some Madison, WI crossings in 2007

On August 12, 2007 the first "Gandy Dancer Festival" bluegrass music festival was held in Madison, Wisconsin and the Wisconsin and Southern railroad provided free public excursions with one of their E-units and ex-C&NW bilevel coaches (which they would also do the following year, and then stop due ...

Re: 2-20-25 Update

Nice to see some more ASC e-bells and international crossings.

While I was browsing the Iowa section I noticed someone added the pictures I posted here of the abandoned Iowa River RR crossings in Steamboat Rock. Hadn't even realized that was done.

Edit: Looks like it was just the ...

Re: 12-31-24 Update

Cool to see Gary, IN on there, including some of the now removed signals on the abandoned NS line.

Small correction is needed to Clark Rd. #3, under pictures 1 and 2 there's a line that says "Text goes here."

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt

The Street View car managed to catch CN's Manitowoc, WI local on two occasions last year.

At the Briess Malt yard with GP40-2LW 9452, and the WC-painted caboose:

Re: Wigwag Videos

For the ten-year anniversary, just re-edited/uploaded this chase including the wigwag that was on 6th Street in Avoca, WI. It was removed within the next 7-10 days after the video. We also see a crossing in Lone Rock, WI with Safetran/RACO truss-type cantilevers (although the lights had already been ...

Re: Bell only crossings

Feeling a little homesick today... was doing some browsing around places I had been in Illinois and came across this one in a town called Lewistown, IL, not too far from where my grandmother used to live.

This line was nearly dead for many years, but for the last 5 years or so has been used ...
