Scooting about Houston for a bit while things are slow on the Live Trains T&NO diamond cam, and found more ugly UP MF's.

On another note... Stop here when flashing? What exactly is supposed to be flashing? The train crew?

My guess is that it's supposed to be referencing the gated signals that used to be there (for a fairly short amount of time, it appears), but were removed for some reason when the road got redone there.SirKrunch wrote: ↑Sun Jul 09, 2023 3:00 pmOn another note... Re: Misprinted crossbucks in service
Nice catch. UP has been known to store cars up to their end-of-track (prior to 2012 or so, CN's ex-WCL/FRVR portion of the line was still intact from there to Manitowoc, they then abandoned everything south of Newton but I believe there's no longer any traffic in Newton, either) but obviously as of that September 2021 Street View it hadn't happened in a while.SirKrunch wrote: ↑Sat Jun 17, 2023 5:57 pm
Speaking of UP and odd things. I was looking to see if there was an updated Streetview of the Saemann Ave. crossing in Sheboygan yet. Happened to follow the line North to Haven and past, and noticed they did a crossbuck replacement on a VERY out of service crossing. Why, even? I think we all know that nothing will ever cross here except possibly some kind of MOW equipment when they rip the rail.

As of November 2022, CN has a red board South of Orchard Lane at Manitowoc. But at least there was still a dull shine on the rails at Viebahn Street. (Obviously switching use only.)AndyWS wrote: ↑Tue Jul 11, 2023 7:35 pmNice catch. Coincidentally, I was just asking about that spot on Facebook today, because it looks like the switch at the red board was left set for the siding that's west of the main; and on the aerial views you can see that it's double-ended and passes through two long metal buildings. I was told it was a place called Heresite Chemical; that used to do protective coatings for tank cars.SirKrunch wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:19 pmAs of November 2022, CN has a red board South of Orchard Lane at Manitowoc. Re: Misprinted crossbucks in service
There's a listing for them in the downtown area. I wonder if that location was a remote workshop or maybe where they got their start?AndyWS wrote: ↑Sun Jul 16, 2023 7:35 pmCoincidentally, I was just asking about that spot on Facebook today, because it looks like the switch at the red board was left set for the siding that's west of the main; and on the aerial views you can see that it's double-ended and passes through two long metal buildings. AndyWS wrote: ↑Fri Feb 10, 2023 8:35 pmUgh. Discovered on Street View that UP has recently put up a couple of these (put together wrong, to boot) on a rural crossing near Evasnville, Wisconsin. Funny thing is, this crossing is essentially out of service. The only active shipper on the line is just east of the crossing (the grain elevator with the loop track) and not too long ago they installed a derail to its west. Occasionally they will park stored cars west of Evansville, but that's the only thing they do with it since the last car for Nelson-Young Lumber was probably 4-5 years ago.

Happened to click on this and visit the crossing again tonight. Maybe someone from UP saw your message on here. They actually corrected both crossbucks to read correctly. You can even see the incorrect holes they drilled into the damn things to mount them originally!
Well,
