Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
After filming the northbound mixed freight in Braswell, I continued south along the Atlanta North to Dallas. After a bit of waiting here, my tenth and final train of the day came through: one final northbound mixed freight with an NS AC44C6M leading a BNSF SD70ACe for power. Certainly not a bad train to end off with.
After this, I went over to Academy Drive to see if I could get one more train, but sadly nothing came through before it got too dark.
This crossing is another nice one, featuring another late-SOU install from the early 80s. It appears that in the late-90s or early-2000s, NS replaced the bell here with a GS e-bell, I suspect a Type 1. Also in the late-90s or 2000s, it appears that the closer signal had its original Safetran gate mech replaced with the current one. Then, sometime between 2008 and 2013, the far signal also had its original Safetran gate mech replaced with the current Safetran one. Finally, sometime between 2013 and 2016, the bell on the far signal was replaced again, this time with the current GS Type 2. Since then, however, thankfully no further changes have occurred to these signals.
Of course, the stars of the show here are the MI 12x24 inch lights, which are hard to find in use on NS lines these days (especially since it seems the SOU didn't used them for very long). Thankfully, despite the upgrades over the years this crossing's seen, NS has left the original lights here entirely alone, outside of fresh paint and newer lenses for them. Hopefully these continue to remain largely unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I got to record them when I did.
