*originally recorded on 9-1-23*

Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell.

After I caught the southbound ethanol train, I went over to the other crossing in Sherman I wanted to film. After a bit of waiting here, I was almost snuck-up on by another southbound, but was also able to get my camera here started in time. This train wound-up being another southbound ethanol train of the exact same length, but this one had an ES44C4 leading a Dash-9 and an SD70ACe on the head-end, and a Dash-9 working as the DPU. Definitely quite nice seeing two ethanol trains back to back like this, I didn't even know the Birmingham Sub had any!

This crossing is definitely a nicer one, and is one of the only three remaining gateless crossings along the BNSF Birmingham Subdivision in Mississippi. The signals here appear to have been an early-90s BN install, but, in the 2000s, BNSF replaced the bell here with the current GS Type 2. Then, sometime after 2017 or so (it seems), the far signal was replaced by BNSF with the current one. A bit strangely for BNSF, they chose to install new incandescent Safetran 12x24s on that signal, rather than upgrading this crossing to LED. Either way, I'm definitely glad to see this crossing is still fully incandescent, hopefully it'll remain unchanged for many more years to come.
