*originally recorded on 10-3-24*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After I caught 12T in Fort Payne, I chased it on north to this crossing in Trenton, GA, for one final shot of it. Here we get to see NS 12T slowing down to stop on the main here, to allow for a southbound it was meeting to enter the siding.
This crossing is a rather nice one, and probably the best one I got on this day, admittedly. The signals here are an early-80s install from the late-SOU install, that's still at least partially original. It appears that later-on in the 1980s, or possibly in the early-90s, NS replaced the main lights on the far signal with the current Safetran 12x24 inch lights, though they left the one pair of MI 12x24 inch sidelights on that signal alone. The crossing then remained largely unchanged until sometime between 2007 and 2019, a few more changes would occur here. During this time frame, the far signal would have its remaining pair of MI 12x24 inch lights replaced with two pairs of reused Safetran 12x24 inch lights, and the closer signal would have its gate mechanism replaced with a reused, but newer, Safetran one. The original WCH mechanical bell here would also get replaced sometime between 2007 and 2015, I believe, though I'm not sure if it would've been with any of the other upgrades here or not.
Thankfully, despite all of the upgrades here, the closer signal still retains its original MI 12x24 inch lights, one of the only two crossings on the AGS North to still have some. The far signal also still has its original gate mech, complete with the original MI counterweight arms, which is rather nice to see. Admittedly, I had been meaning to get this crossing for a while, so I'm glad I was finally able to do so.
