Dragline Road, Moody, AL
*originally recorded on 10-6-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching 395 for the third time, EquusStorm and I went back east to this crossing in Moody to wait for the northbound Amtrak Crescent. After a little while of waiting, Zach and I were able to get our seventh and final train of the day: Amtrak 20 flying through Moody just before sunset with a P42DC leading an ALC-42 for power, both in Phase VII! After this, I dropped Zach off at his house near Jasper before returning back home to Huntsville for the evening.
This crossing is another nice one, featuring a nice late-90s NS install that's still largely original. The only change to this crossing appears to have occurred here sometime between 2014 and 2015 (and certainly prior to 2019), when NS replaced the original GS (Type 1?) e-bell on the far signal with the current GS Type 2 e-bell. Thankfully, since then, nothing else has changed to this crossing, aside from NS replacing the original NEG gate lights here with the current LED ones sometime between 2022 and 2024. Hopefully the GS Type 1 e-bell here, which has turned almost entirely white, remains here for many more years to come. Either way, I'm glad I was able to confirm two more GS Type 1s along the NS East End District, which are always great to find, IMHO.
