Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching 346, we snagged some lunch from the Publix in Pell City before returning back to this crossing in Riverside. After a little while of waiting (during which we enjoyed our lunches), we were able to get the fifth train of the day: NS 395 with a pair of ES44DCs for power and a friendly crew aboard!
This crossing is a pretty decent one, though, admittedly, the main reason I decided to go to it was because it has a pair of Safetran Type 3 e-bells at it. Despite having filmed a bunch of NS crossings recently, I ain't exactly filmed too many Safetran Type 3s as of late.
This crossing may appear to be a mid to late-2000s NS install at first (and I honestly originally thought it was), though apparently it isn't! The signals here appear to have actually been an early-2000s NS install, though, sometime between 2011 and 2013, NS replaced both of the original GS Type 2s here with the current Safetran Type 3 e-bells. Not entirely sure why they did this, but it's definitely a bit interesting to see, IMHO. Since then, no other major changes appear to have occurred here, save for the gate lights being upgraded to LED sometime within the past few years.
