*originally recorded on 10-19-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After catching 395 in Riverside, we continued west towards this crossing in Pell City. Roughly 2 hours after seeing that train, we were able to get our sixth train of the day: an eastbound mixed freight with an ET44AC leading an AC44C6M and an ex-N&W SD40-2 on the head-end and another AC44C6M working as the mid-train DPU.
This crossing is a fairly nice one, and I'm glad I got it recorded. The signals here were installed by NS back in the mid-90s, though, sometime between 2008 and 2013, the original Safetran mechanical bell here was replaced by the current Safetran Type 3 e-bell. Thankfully, since then, nothing else too major appears to have changed here (aside from the closer signal having its gate lights upgraded to LED). The bell here is also still set to ring when the gates rise, which is rather nice to see.
