Old Apison Road, near Cohutta, GA
*originally recorded on 10-26-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.
After catching the northbound intermodal, I went over to this crossing for my next video, meeting-up with Elliot while waiting for my third train of the day. After about two hours of waiting, I was able to get said third train, with this northbound mixed freight with an AC44C6M leading an ET44AC for power.
This crossing is a rather nice one, with some signals that NS appears to have originally installed in the early-90s, though in the late-90s, the bell here was replaced with the current GS Type 1 e-bell. At about the same time (or in the 2000s), NS replaced both gate mechs here with the current Safetran ones as well. The crossing then remained unchanged until sometime between 2020 and 2024, when the closer signal was replaced entirely by the current one, though the gate mech was reused onto it. Thankfully, the GS Type 1 e-bell is still here and operational, which is great to see. The bell here also rings while the gates rise still as well, which I'm quite glad to see too. Always a bit neat to see a crossing with an incandescent/LED mix like this as well.
