Dry Valley Road, near Cohutta, GA
*originally recorded on 10-26-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
After catching the northbound mixed freight at Old Apison Road, I hopped over to this crossing for the next train. After about half an hour or so of waiting, I was able to get my fourth train of the day: another northbound mixed freight with an AC44C6M leading an SD70ACe for power, and a friendly crew aboard! After the train passes, you can hear the defect detector next to this crossing reading-out for the train.
This crossing is another nice one, featuring a 1980s NS install that's still fairly original. In the late-90s, NS replaced the bell here with the current GS Type 1 e-bell. Then, in the 2000s (I believe), the right-rear light on the closer signal was replaced by the current Safetran 12x24. Thankfully, since then, nothing else too major appears to have changed to this crossing. I'm definitely glad to see the GS Type 1 here is still going strong. The closer signal is also missing its blue ENS sign, which definitely reminds me a bit more of when I was railfanning back in high school prior to them becoming standard.
