This is on North Grand Ave in Springfield, IL, and was taken in 2003. There are 9 signals in this picture total, although one is hidden by a telephone pole. (The telephone pole on the left side... you can BARELY make out the gate for that signal behind the pole). The 1st gated signal on the right (middle part of the picture) is the one with the teardrop bell as discussed in the Lights, Bells & Gates section. Also, the crossing that was served by the two gateless signals on the right side was torn out for safety reasons. Those two signals have long since been removed. :Awww:

They're known as Bandits...locomotives still in patch-black-splashed Milwaukee Road orange 23 years after the railroad's flag fell. Lots more of them around than there are unrepainted C&NW units on the UP. :TUP2:
