Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)
Here's a few unusual variations I've noticed for the Signallized Traffic Intersection signs.
Back in 2010, these two for the intersection at Princes Highway, McGregor Road, and The Avenue in Pakenham, VIC had the red and green lights colored in. Most versions of this sign don't have the lights colored in and the red dot had completely faded on one of them.

By 2014, they had been replaced with the standard version.

The other side still had the same signs in 2014. Again, the red dot had faded on one of the signs.

But by 2015, they had been replaced too.

Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)
They aren't in the MUTCD, but seem to be a more "modern" version of the classic "SLOW CHILDREN AT PLAY" signs (that were also removed from the MUTCD years ago) with a more simplified message. Unfortunately, they have a rather pedophiliac connotation with the "WATCH CHILDREN" message, though I suppose they'd work better if there was a "for" between "watch" and "children". Also, Gadsden has some similar signs, but they say "CHILD WATCH" instead and they're strangely installed perpendicular to the road they're on, not sure why:TrickyMario7654 wrote:What?

I'm pretty sure more have been installed since street view went through, BTW, as I remember several others.
They/Them for me, please.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)
Very strange signal setup.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.38337 ... 312!8i6656
These signals replaced some PEEK signals.
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.38338 ... 312!8i6656
There were also some stores here, sadly during the 2011 England riots, a majority of the buildings were burnt down when a fire was started in a fruit and veg shop. They're being rebuilt however.

PEEKS on a residential street, strange...

Why is this Plessy signal raised?
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.37397 ... 312!8i6656
There used to be Microsense signals here, they were installed around the late 1990's when the Tramlink Phase 3 line was opened, there are pictures of the Plessy Signals on the internet though, i'll have to find then, you can probably work out what happened to the signals in the 2011 England riots, though.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt (Traffic signals and signs)
So this is one of the blackout boxes. A little hard to make out, but here It is displaying no left turn because the crossing to the left is activated for a train (I did a separate post in the crossing signal scavenger hunt for that).
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5133099 ... 6656?hl=en
But look what it is displaying here:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5131221 ... 6656?hl=en
I guess I didn't realize these could display different things at different times. In this shot it is completely turned off.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5129505 ... 6656?hl=en
At the next street over, we have another blackout box displaying no left turn because of the train. Notice the doghouse signal is red. Interesting! I wouldn't expect that signal to operate separately from the rest of the lights facing this direction.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5142056 ... 6656?hl=en
And lastly... notice these signals for the frontage road. In 2013 they were more standard light heads with "visors" in them.
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5142983 ... 6656?hl=en
Back in 2009 they were 3M signals.
