Update #783

Post by Smjh1979 »

31 new pictures of 3 new crossings from Halifax, Reading, and Riverside, PA.
49 new pictures of 2 new and 1 updated crossing from Oxnard, Somis, & Port Hueneme, CA.
21 new pictures of 1 new crossing from Sebastian, FL.
16 new pictures of 2 new crossings from Virden, IL.

I want to see a high amount of comments on this update. Many people don't do this anymore.

I think what it is is that most people dont feel to comment on the updates. I am that way, i really like the weekly update, but usually cant think of anything besides "Great Update" so say.
Visit my website to see my complete collection of over 2,200 train pictures:

I concur with you as well, Sir. It's not that I don't appreciate or don't enjoy the updates, but all I can normally add is, great work as usual, and thank you so much. Please don't take that to mean I don't appreciate all the labor that goes into doing this each week, from the people taking the photos to everyone involved in piecing together the photos and html.
Well, :Censored:

Nice to see that one-signal Oxnard crossing on the site. Some good stuff on the PA updates, too.

As with the other comments, I too also appreciate everything you do, Mike, for this website and the forum. :TUP1:

Unfortunately between working 2 jobs, and taking care of a 2 1/2 year old, I have not been able to devote a lot of time to posting lately. But rest assured, when I do get a spare moment, I check both the forum and the website, and post comments when I can.

Ok, I do have a question about the Ventura Road crossing... If it's not used, why is the railroad and/or maintainer worried about a non-functioning bell? Do they know something that might be happening that there will be use of the line again somehow? Usually most railroads seem to let equipment go when a line isn't being used.

Depends on if the line is declared out of service or not. There is a line close to me that in the past 5 years has only seen about 7 or 8 trains. It's used to store cars. The railroad still has to maintain the crossings though. Only if a line is declared out of service can the railroad then not maintain the crossings, if there is even a slight possibility of there being a train they have to maintain the signals or face fines.
