New uses for an old signal

Post by Mafarnz »

Was looking through my older pictures today, rediscovered this one:

It's a set of 8" lights turned into a derail signal. One lens is res, one lens is green. When the derail is set open (traffic will derail) it's red, when it's closed (traffic can move through it) the light goes to green. It's the same on the other side as well.

Reminds me of those toy signals that have the flashing green and red bulbs in them.

From where did they get a GREEN glass lens?

Are they the same size asignalens? 8-1/4 inches?

It's probably not glass. And it is likely an 8" traffic light lens.

The green is a little bit smaller than the red.

Why would that be?
Or are you comparing 12-inch red traffic signalamps often on top of 8-inch lamps?

It could be different manufacturers. WRRS 8 3/8" lenses are a lot smaller than Safetran and RACO.
