"LOOK OUT FOR THE CARS" signs in Florida
I've been looking at crossings in Florida on streetview. I have visited there before. I've noticed that most of the passive crossings have these signs. Are or were they a legal requirement in Florida?

Re: "LOOK OUT FOR THE CARS" signs in Florida
Probably back in the '40s they were... Does anybody like those signs? Would anyone like that in a sign graphic on the site?

Sure, I would like that.
Also, I am pretty sure they are not. I lived in Florida for about two years, and I am pretty sure that I have never seen one of those signs.

these are quite common at a lot of passive crossings in Florida...
To me they've never made much sense. Why would you look out for the cars when you should clearly be looking out for the engine? LOL

I think theyre silly and unnessesary myself. I would like a grahic of one to be available.
When I was looking at crossings on streetview the other days, several had crossbucks that were in decent shape, while the LOOK OUT FOR THE CARS signs were so deteriorated that they were completely unreadable. My suspicion is that they are no longer a standard/requirement.

Before UP did their quad gate upgrades, many crossings on the UP Joliet Sub were passive and had "Warning High Speed Trains"

This crossing is also on the site.

I have seen some "newer" looking ones (that use a newer, different font).....can't think of one off the top of my head but I'll try to find some.Brian556 wrote:I think theyre silly and unnessesary myself. I would like a grahic of one to be available.

I absolutely adore those signs. I would love those to become a graphic!Smjh1979 wrote:Does anybody like those signs? Would anyone like that in a sign graphic on the site?

Those signs are quite common on light rail lines and extremely fast railroads.TommyBNSF wrote:Before UP did their quad gate upgrades, many crossings on the UP Joliet Sub were passive and had "Warning High Speed Trains"

Re: "LOOK OUT FOR THE CARS" signs in Florida
sorry to resurrect this, but the look out for the cars sign was very common on crossings that did not have any signal controls, found this diagram from Seaboard Coast line Days and it states these signs were for Florida only, http://serr.railfan.net/mow/169-A-18.gif
