Expressway gates

Post by cabman701 »

So I came across this over the weekend in Tampa. This is on the Selmon Expressway. Part of the "upper" lanes are reversable... so in the morning the traffic on this section of the road can be incoming, and at night it is reversed for outgoing traffic. For that reason, the entrances at each end are protected by these: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.952274, ... !1e1?hl=en

The large gate is like the barrier gates in Wisconsin (or used to be...). But in case you didn't notice, it has some friends also... 4 of them to be exact that swing horizontally: https://www.google.com/maps/@27.952274, ... !1e1?hl=en

Google caught them in action more than it didn't... Google has been through that intersection like 7 times... quite interesting!

Those gates are only activated for about 4-5 hours a day, and weekdays only. All other times, they are inactive and traffic flows from west to east on the upper span of the Selmon Expressway.

On the Brandon side, these gates pretty much remain active, except for when traffic flows from east to west.

Very nice... I wonder if those gate lights are LED? If not, they have got a lot of light bulbs to maintain!
