Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Looks like a lot of New Mexican snow knocked over this crossbuck! https://www.google.com/maps/@36.9732756 ... 1664?hl=en
Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Active crossings on what appears to be a quite busy line in Lexington, Nebraska:
#1: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7613222 ... 6656?hl=en. They got it active again in May 2009 as well. Appears to be malfunctioning this time as only 1 gate is down...: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7613215 ... 1664?hl=en
#2: A couple of crossings to the east: https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7531226 ... 6656?hl=en. Older Streetview pics on this crossing show it used to have crossbucks only. The signals were installed sometime between 2009 and 2012.
#3: And yet the next road to the east (from 2008): https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7489024 ... 1664?hl=en
#4: And yet again a little further to the east (also from 2008): https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7362981 ... 1664?hl=en
#5: I'm on a streak! https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7314882 ... 6656?hl=en and https://www.google.com/maps/@40.7314902 ... 1664?hl=en

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Not active, but came across this interesting crossing in Elkhart, IN: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.6811932 ... 56!6m1!1e1
The crossing on the right has 5 tracks, with 4 of of them that curve immediately after the crossing. The closest track though goes straight, and through the crossing on the left. I wonder if all 4 signals operate for any train... or if the crossing to left only activates when it needs to? 3 out of the 4 signals still have 8 inch lights also.
Here is a more recent pic of one of the signals active... unfortunately doesn't answer my question though: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 99&nseq=65

Pretty unique setup here, there are three crossings in this setup, only one is signalized. https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1943341 ... 1664?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1946755 ... 1664?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1947307 ... 1664?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@46.1945877 ... 1664?hl=en

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
The Alaskan Railway was a big fan of GRS Lex-C lights. I want to go up there sometime and railfan their lines at the crossings with them.
They/Them for me, please.

Yes, I remember another post awhile back about a bunch of 12 inch Lex-C's somewhere in Alaska.freebrickproductions wrote:The Alaskan Railway was a big fan of GRS Lex-C lights. I want to go up there sometime and railfan their lines at the crossings with them.
I was surprised back then, and still am now to see more. You would think with the plastic they would wear faster in the brutal cold. I could also see them getting easily damaged if hit by flying snow from a snow plow.
