Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
If you look at the 2009 image, that mast only had one set of lights on it (it's a one way road), and a bell. In the 2016 view, the mast that is knocked down has 2 set of lights on it, and the bell is now on the cantilever on the other side of the tracks.
Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
The mast from the 2009 image was a different one as well; it was taller and had a bell on it.cabman701 wrote:If you look at the 2009 image, that mast only had one set of lights on it (it's a one way road), and a bell. Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

A somewhat odd installation in Fayetteville, NC:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0399474 ... 56!6m1!1e1
Also in Fayetteville, a 6 track crossing (on what appears to be a pretty busy road)... with nothing more than a yield sign.
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0476553 ... 56!6m1!1e1
I guess the extra mast and lights are for pedestrians?
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0519748 ... 56!6m1!1e1
This is an interesting intersection. There are tracks that cut through the middle of it, plus another set of tracks to the left in this shot:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0523373 ... 56!6m1!1e1
I'd be curious to see how this works. Do all the signals activate no matter what track the train is on?
This interesting crossing was active in 2012:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0514484 ... 56!6m1!1e1
It no longer exists in 2015:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0515367 ... 56!6m1!1e1
Odd looking signal:

Check out this relic in Lakewood Township, New Jersey:

I wonder what the antenna is for?

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
I think that crossing might be manually controlled and they may have installed the antenna on the cantilever just to give it some elevation.cabman701 wrote:]
