Nice work with the teardrop map! Are you only including teardrop bells which can be seen on GSV? Probably not a bad idea otherwise the map would be very cluttered

Thanks for posting the information about the Safetran bells, it's nice to go back and see those classic crossings before they were trashed by Metro.

While were on the subject of Teardrop bells, I just found out that there's another still in service on the Portland line.

It's at Heathmere, on the Princes Highway.

So that's 2 teardrop bells confirmed on the Portland line, it's a good sign that there could be more. It's probably lucky that the line is in the hands of ARTC, otherwise those bells would be long gone by now. I would love to visit the area and see those crossings, if I get the time next year I could drive to Adelaide (via Swan Hill) to film a few crossings with GRS Lex-C lights, then come home the long way via Portland.

I just recovered from that laugh attack over Daniel Andrews' post.

Anyways, according to street view, there are six other crossings (not counting Tyers Street or Princes Highway) with Teardrop bells on the Portland line. So, in the best case scenario there would be a total of eight along the line. There's also one WCH m-bell, one Safetran m-bell, fourteen hybrid bells, and one crossing with a Safetran Type 3 e-bell (according to street view). There's also one other gateless crossing on the line that's not on street view (Mill Road, Strathkellar) which I have no idea what bell it has, so it's a complete surprise with that crossing. If I had to take a guess, it's most likely going to have a hybrid bell. Although, it may have a Teardrop, Safetran, maybe even a WABCO bell!

Very amusing, not much else Dan can say otherwise he's rubbishing his own government's policy

Daniel Andrews may want to consider the fact that politicians (particularly Premiers and Prime Ministers) come and go on a regular basis and they are usually not missed when they leave the job. Sooner or later he will be voted out and become another "relic of the past".

Oh my god that is hilarious! I can't believe that a crossing foamer actually messaged him! Instead of telling him that removing level crossings will do more harm then good, he just said that he is a crossing fan an doesn't want to see them go!

Someone said "Level crossings work fine. Such a shame we have to idiot proof the world." What did Daniel Andrews have to say...

I'm afraid they don't work fine at all. They hold up traffic. They slow down trains. They're responsible for the deaths of our fellow Victorians. We're removing 50 of our most dangerous and congested level crossings. Absolutely no regrets.

Sure they may hold up traffic, but asides from the tramsquare crossings, I don't think they slow down trains. A majority of deaths at active crossings are caused by people disobeying the warning systems. He ends with the usual spin.

Also, If they don't work. How come this has never happened?

The saddest thing about the post though is that he got 1.2k likes (so far) while we (and especially you) got a roasting...

On another note though, I stumbled across this video showing the upgraded crossing at Anstey station. It has Seimens gate mechs, and 1 General signals type 2 E-bell, and 1 General signals type 3 E-bell.

I was having a good laugh over reading some of those comments, even though I was somewhat roasted.

Interesting hearing a Type 2 with a Type 3, certainly a good way to clam down from the Daniel Andrews post.

As for the newest installation of a Safetran bell, this crossing in Northcote actually had one installed between 2007-2009, replacing a hybrid bell!

Whatever it is, I think it may have came from Seaford road, as Seaford road had an unidentifiable black bell that mysteriously disappeared sometime between 2007-2009. The mysterious black bell was replaced by a hybrid bell, I also know that it couldn't have been a teardrop bell because the base matched a Safetran/WRRS/ whatever other bell looks like it, but the picture is so blurry you can't make out the shape of the rain shield.
