Interesting finds there, the Portland line is looking very promisingTrickyMario7654 wrote:Well, I've been searching Flickr for some images of trains on the Portland line and can confirm that the following bells are still in service (as of when the pictures were taken).
Cliff Street, Portland (Westinghouse Teardrop, still in service as of September 2017):

Found a timetable for the line on the ARTC site, although it doesn't show the SSR grain trains (seasonal I guess). I noticed they were using the former NSW coal hoppers which were converted to grain.

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Unfortunately, I have some rather sad news to share. Remember this Westinghouse Teardrop Bell at Dreamworld?
Well, sadly that bell is now gone.
Sometime over the past couple of months, the entire cave structure was removed and the only crossing equipment renaming is the lights and gate mechs. Here's what the crossing looks like now:

Here are some other photos of the surrounding area:

I recently watched a video showing that this crossing is now completely mute (no alarms or anything), however I can't locate it at the moment. I will post a link if I find it.
This leaves only one single crossing bell still operating in Queensland (also at Dreamworld, next to the main station).

They probably still have it, maybe they'll reinstall it at the crossing.chris96 wrote:Unfortunately, I have some rather sad news to share. Remember this Westinghouse Teardrop Bell at Dreamworld?

That's a real shame. It was really one of a kind. They've probably just put it in storage for spares for the other bell... hopefullychris96 wrote:Unfortunately, I have some rather sad news to share. Remember this Westinghouse Teardrop Bell at Dreamworld?

Oh and also, I think I've found out what happened to the teardrop bell at Corrigan road, Noble Park. It must have gone to the VR Workshops in Albert Park, as it's appeared on EBay, being sold by the guy who runs the workshop. I'm PRETTY sure it's the one, as it has a distinct (but faded) yellow cross painted on the back of it, just like the one at Corrigan road. The gong looks like it's been cleaned up or replaced with a new one, as it looks in far better condition than when it was at Corrigan road. If anyone has a spare $600 they wanna splurge on a piece of Victorian railway history then now's your chance. I would, but I already have 2 teardrop bells and they take up too much room!

I'm glad that the teardrop bell wasn't scrapped. The ebay listing says the bell is "in working and as found condition", I guess it didn't die after all but was disconnected when the hybrid bell was installed. Well, I believe it would've last been used when the crossing was gateless. Once they installed gates there in the early 1980's, they would have disconnected it and used the hybrid bells on the gate masts.McK&H.Aust wrote:I'm glad that the teardrop bell wasn't scrapped. Sadly, the removal of the crossing means that there's no more Teardrop bells in Melbourne.
On the similar note, when Warrigal Road first got gates, they actually reused a Teardrop bell on one of the gated signals.

By 2007 though, it had been replaced with another hybrid bell.

Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!

You can now add Skye/Overton Road Frankston to list list of removed crossings (the twentieth crossing to be removed).NathanFromEngland wrote: Corrigan Road is now gone? Why Daniel Andrews, WHY?
The boom gates were dismantled last night, but the sky rail hasn’t even been built yet, just the foundations have so the roads going to remain closed until early June...
Metro, why are you so bad at maintaining your railway crossings??

Re: Australian Railroad Crossing Signals
Does that road get a lot of traffic? Because if so, it's gonna pile a ton of traffic onto other streets and crossings (as make those crossings "very dangerous").Username1 wrote:You can now add Skye/Overton Road Frankston to list list of removed crossings (the twentieth crossing to be removed).NathanFromEngland wrote: Corrigan Road is now gone?
