After catching the monster coal train, I went on over to the other side of LaGrange to begin finishing-out the Lineville Sub. When I got over to this crossing, I saw that there was a northbound lined, so I decided to set-up and wait for it. While waiting for it, Q601 pulled-up to the signal at the end of the siding to my west. After about an hour of waiting, this northbound mixed freight came rolling through with a YN2 AC44CW leading a trio of YN3 ES40DCs, a YN2 Dash-9, and another YN3 ES40DC! Always great to see a YN2 unit leading, and, amusingly enough, I believe this is my 4th time seeing CSX 9004.

This crossing is also a pretty nice one, featuring a pair of cantilever signals that it appears the SCL installed back in the early to mid-70s. In the 1980s, it appears that the SBD replaced the mast lights on at least the cantilevers with MI 12x24 inch lights. The FS 12x24 here might've also been installed here at the time as well (most likely re-used from a different crossing), but I'm not entirely sure. Then, in the mid to late-90s, CSX replaced the gate masts with newer ones, and I believe that at this time, the crossing got a pair of GS Type 1s. Finally, sometime before 2013, the GS Type 1 on the far signal was replaced with the current NEG e-bell. Since then, no major changes appear to have occurred to this crossing, thankfully.
These old Walpar cantilevers are always cool to see, so I'm glad they're still around. Most of the FS lights here are also the earlier ones, which is great to see as well. Not entirely sure if the gate mast would've originally had WCH mechanical bells or GS Type 1s, though. They're entirely in the design of the mid-90s CSX installs, but I want to say I've seen a few similar early GS Type 1 installs from CSX as well. Either way, hopefully this crossing remains around for a good while longer.
They/Them for me, please.
