Re: Main Street (AL 101), Town Creek, AL
*originally recorded on 8-27-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, a RECO LED gate light, a RECO gate light, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.
On August 27th, I got on up and out to try and catch a siren test in Memphis, along with doing some railfanning before and after. On my way out to Memphis, I decided to stop and rerecord this crossing as vtgrxrman and I had seen there was a new e-bell here not too long before. After a little while of waiting, I was able to catch my first train of the day: NS 204 with a UP AC44CW leading an NS AC44C6M for power.
Sometime within the past couple of months, NS sadly replaced the 1st Gen Safetran mechanical bell here. I obviously can't say for certain, but I suspect it must've just up and died, seeing as it was sounding a bit "squeaky" when I last filmed it. The bell it was replaced with was a GS e-bell, which I thought might've been a Type 3 but it seems it was actually a NOS Type 2, based on the condition of it. Definitely a shame to see the 1st Gen Safetran here go though, as, with the replacement of this one and the one at US 72 in Scottsboro, that only leaves the one on Woods Cove Road in Scottsboro as the last remaining 1st Gen Safetran bell on the line. Admittedly, I doubt that bell will be around too much longer, given how it was sounding when I filmed that crossing back 2023. The far signal also had its tip gate light replaced with an NEG LED gate light within the past few months as well, it appears. Thankfully, nothing else appears to have changed to these old mid-70s SOU signals since I last recorded this crossing, and they even still retain their original mid-70s Safetran gate mechs, which is nice to see.
