*originally recorded on 12-29-20*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Low Wattage LEDs, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, 2 RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.

After catching the BNSF coal train, we went back to 26th Street to continue waiting on NS 320, only to hear yet another BNSF train approaching from our west. As such, we raced on over to this crossing a bit to the west of the diamond, where we were able to catch this southbound BNSF intermodal train with a very fresh-looking ES44C4 leading a Dash-9 and an ES44DC.

This crossing is actually a pretty nice one, despite having some modern BNSF signals at it. The signals here appear to have been installed in about 2016 or so, and look identical to most BNSF installs of that era at first glance. However, the crossing is actually a bit more interesting than that, IMHO.
First off, the closer signal here also seems to have been built out of spare parts. The base on it is a US&S base, while the main lights all feature Dialight Low Wattage LEDs, which I haven't ever seen BNSF use anywhere else. There's also an NEG LED gate light on the tip of the gate arm, with the other two LED gate lights being from RECO, though the tip gate light may have just simply died at some point and was replaced with the current one.
Another unusual thing about this crossing is the crossbucks. Normally, BNSF uses a single double-sided crossbuck on each signal as standard. However, for whatever reason, the signals here were both installed with a pair of single-sided crossbucks, one facing forwards, and one facing backwards. Certainly an unusual sight on a BNSF line, typically crossbucks like this are only found on KCS lines and newer installs up in New Jersey!
Another neat detail to the crossing is the fact that it also still retains a wooden grade. You don't see those too often, but the Birmingham Sub still has a good few, it appears.
They/Them for me, please.

No major changes here as of 3-4-25:

The grade was replaced, however.
