Re: Bibb-Garrett Road, Decatur, AL
*originally recorded on 3-11-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and a RECO gate light.
After catching M514 in Tanner, I decided to hop over to this crossing to finally see about getting it recorded. After a little while of waiting (during which I was able to meet-up with another local railfan here), I was able to catch my seventh and final train of the day here: NS 362 with a pair of NS AC44C6Ms leading a KLWX SD70MACH for power! The SD70MACH on this train is a former BN/BNSF SD70MAC, which Knoxville Locomotive Works rebuilt to Tier-4 specs and is now a demonstrator unit for them. I'm assuming it's on its way back to Knoxville on this train.
Sometime within the past year or so, NS finally replaced the long-dead GS e-bell here with a new Safetran Type 3 e-bell. Nice to finally see that bell was replaced. Thankfully, nothing else seems to have changed to this crossing since I last recorded it. I will say, GS Type 2/Safetran Type 3 e-bell combos do always sound nice.

As we were getting off of I-565 to get to Belle Mina, @vtgrxrman and I heard over my scanner that there was an eastbound going through Decatur. Figuring that they'd most likely be meeting at Irvington, we decided to race on over to this crossing next after we caught 363. Thankfully, we were able to get here with a few minutes to spare, and here we see our second train of the day: NS 288 with a pair of AC44C6Ms for power.
I decided to leave in both 363 and 288 calling the signals at both ends of the passing siding here towards the start of the video, as I thought they were kinda neat to hear. You can also hear a K5HL coming from the CSX S&NA North Subdivision for a southbound intermodal train (I believe), though we had to get onto Covington, TN, so I didn't get a chance to catch that.
Since I was last here, NS had replaced the middle gate light on the closer signal with an NEG LED gate light. Amusingly, the gate lights on the far side have also somehow gotten miswired and all flash together now as a result. Thankfully, as you can see, nothing else has changed to this crossing since I last recorded it.
