Signal Tech - "Hey, Bob..."
Bob - "Yeah?"
Signal Tech - "Do you think we should take out the old signal?"
Bob - "Nah, just leave it."
Signal Tech - "Alrighty, then."

If I had known that was there when I was in KC, I would have gotten this crossing for the site.
You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile .

My guess is they left that signal there because the road curves through a wooded area on both sides of the crossing.

That extra signal is so short I don't think it really helps much with visability. Plus, if that were the reason, why didn't they put one (or leave one) on the other side too?

Seems to me some extra lights or something would help on the approach opposite the "shortie". That utility pole seems to obscure the view of the lights coming around the curve.

I'm thinking there use to be a cantilever where that mast signal is and it got destroyed in a wreck or something.

I recognize the top light of the signal, but the bottom, I don't really know.

I was wondering that, too. I'm lost....
