What's going on here?

Either this pedestrian crossing is not complete, or they have some funky set up with the lights, but I love how strange this is:

The first one was obviously not open yet although I've never seen them turn lights like that. You can see the crossing is open and the lights are properly aligned here.

As for the second one, that's a "fail safe" signal and seems to be popular up in Canada. I'm not sure if there are any of those here in the States.

I really wonder about that first picture. Those light heads look mounted completely backwards.

This is totally just a "what if"... but do you think somebody could have come along in the middle of the night and done that? (In other words, vandalized the signals in a matter of speaking?) It would'nt take much except a small step ladder and a few tools.

I'm sure others will disagree... but I have a hard time thinking a signal maintainer would mount lights like that, even on a crossing that is not yet active. The lights would have to be bagged anyway if they weren't active yet, right?

its interesting that they used a really long pole, and mounted the lights and sigh really high, that seems kinda pointless.

I must say that is my favorite type of pedestrian crossing. It's simple and effective.

Almost has a slight feel of a Japanese crossing to me... just with the way the masts look tall without crossbucks, and how they're both on the left approach of the crossing.
