FN16a flasher alternative?

Post by SleazyRider »

This is my first post, so please bear with me if my question is elementary, but I can't seem to find an answer by searching.

I'm new to the hobby of railroad crossings, and have recently acquired a pair of signal lights and a bell. (I'll post photographs in the next couple of days.) I don't have a flasher relay, and wonder if there's an alternative to the relays being sold on Ebay that seem to command big bucks. Can a 12-volt mechanical automotive flasher be modified to flash the 2 lights sequentially? Is there perhaps an inexpensive solid state alternative?
