Re: signals in the media
The reason why I know these are 8" lights, is because of this picture:
I wondered if the lights were just caught in mid-flash, but apparently from watching the video, it wasn't.

Well at least they used a standard crossbuck... not sure why they pointed it sideways and also decided to mount it under the lights.
Not sure why movies and TV most of the time seem to make their own rules up when it comes to stuff like that. You would think they would want things to be as realistic as possible.

Another cartoon railroad crossing, this time from the "Mickey Mouse Works" segment "Mickey to the Rescue: Train Tracks." Features a combination of flashing lights and a wig-wag with "STOP" on it.

Re: signals in the media
My girlfriend is a huge country music fan. Has actually gotten me into listening to some of it.
Anyway, the new video from Reba McEntyre has an active crossing in both the beginning of the video, and for a split second the crossing is active at the end, then not active.
IMO, it's actually a pretty upbeat song... it's growing on me at least.

A very nicely and surprisingly correctly drawn signal from the Japanese animated movie "eX-Driver".

Re: signals in the media
In the movie "Bolt" by Disney, there was quiet an unusually high attention given to the train scenes. When he jumps off the bridge, the train underneath is CSX train... that actually looks almost like a CSX SD70MAC, and has the logo with almost spot-on paint scheme.

They had an idea of a made up gantry too. The gantry was as pictured below. The red lights flashed back and fro and a WCH mechanical bell sound was played.

Cheers,
Joshua

Bruno Mars' "Grenade". A crossing is featured in the end.
The crossings start appearing at around 3:20.

You can't see the signal here, but near the end of this commercial you can see the counterweights for the gated signal.
