I would aim the lamps a little more right. They appear aimed straight ahead.
If I owned the garage, I would give them permission to mount 8-inch lamps.
Are 8-inch lamps still made/sold for situations like this where 12-inch are not needed?

Yes, 8" are still being made, but not by every railroad company...

General Signals, Safetran, WCH, Fabricated Metals as far as I know.
Lincoln Industries and US&S don't make them anymore.

The light heads on the site above are all L&W except in picture three. Those are WABCO. The L&W's are described as US&S but they indeed L&W. L&W light heads look similiar to Transport Products light heads. They have unique visors. They have a flat lense retaining ring like TP's but they are stamped L&W. The pic below is of a L&W head. The stamp is on the bottom of the lense retaining ring but it is hard to see in this pic.
That picture looks close to a US&S light head

Ha, Lights on a span wire.
I respectfully submit the following...
(First part shows span wire, the rest is a couple of old depots and some crazy drivers in front of our train)

Looks like I'm about 7 years late to add my two-cents, but here is an old photo from the Atlantic Coast Line. The Crossing has a very similar setup to the ones mentioned above. The photo was taken in 1951.
