Locations Of Currently Known WRRS Mini-M-Bells

Weird, but sweet!

I noticed in an old picture of County Highway AB east of McFarland that is on one of Verne Brummel's slideshow CD-ROMs, there is a WCH or WRRS standard size mechanical bell there, on a picture taken in the mid to late 1980s. When I shot that crossing in 2007, there was a mini bell there.

Nah, wasn't me that took the photos. But did remember the bell being a mini, OTTOMH...
And honestly... I forgot it was on the site. All I could remember was it was on the old board.

I'm surprised that mini bell wasn't touched in your first pic Gillson. That signal looks brand new. i was expecting an E bell or something on a new signal.

I was surprised to see it myself. The signals do look relatively new. CN reused the bell, either from older signals at that crossing or from another location.

And that's all I'm going to look for. This covers most of the state of Maine. There's too much stuff around Portland for me to check. So that's at least 46 more mini-bells than what Crossingman18 got when he lived there, so that pushes the total to around 60 total minimum for Maine.

Needless to say, if you want to see mini-bells on active or non-active lines, Maine is the state to check!

There's a mini bell in Clinton, IA on the IC&E. I was in Clinton a few weeks ago and saw the bell, but couldn't get any pictures since it was the middle of the night. I did find a picture of the bell. Click here to see it.

That bell paired with a GS probably means that the mini bell doesn't work, or is turned off.

Although not seen in the picture, there's actually a third bell at the crossing, a full size WRRS mechanical bell. As for the mini bell not working, I'll have to try to catch a train at the crossing next time I'm there to find out.
