Here is a crossing on the Tavistock-Marsh Mills line in Plymouth.

The line was used weekly by trains that shunted China Clay from Tavistock to Marsh Mills to a China factory IIRC. The factory closed in 2008. Here is a video of the last train to pass the crossing.

Here is the tracks looking west in 2009. It wasn't that overgrown then!

Here is the crossing in 2016.

Here is this crossing which isn't this run down like the other one. Only thing missing was the yodalarm on the small pole, you may want to go to 2009 to see it. Must be a one way road.

Funny how one side of the crossing looks like it could be in use while the other side is clearly out of service!

I wonder if one side really ins't out of service and trains come real close to the crossing? Maybe something like this?

It's possible that you have switching trains that go up to and into the crossing. Hobbs Island Road just outside of Huntsville in Hobbs Island, AL is the same way, as when trains switched the Saint Gobain Industries Plant on the south end of the line, they'd pull up to and into the crossing (sometimes through it was well!) to clear the switch when they were shoving in new cars to the plant or letting the old ones coast out.

Though the reason why I said "switched" rather than "switch" is because the plant stopped shipping by rail in 2015 as the plant is slowly getting shut down. As a result, the HMCR no longer heads to the plant and thus doesn't use the crossing. The only thing that this end of the line is used for now is car storage to the north of the switch, as seen here:

In fact, here are a couple of photos of the very last train to work the plant, just two outbound hoppers with no inbound cars:

According to the ODOT website, work will be done on Monday, May 15th and the highway closed in both directions to remove the US 24 grade crossing of the Napoleon Defiance & Western RR NE of Napoleon. The rest of the trackage from there on East to Liberty Center will not be removed though. That portion of the line will be sandbagged in case a shipper might come online... but the railroad is receiving money for improvements from the state for discontinuing car storage over that portion and allowing the state to remove the crossing.

Darn, I wish I could try to make it tomorrow.

A portion of a rotating Griswold banner signal remains.
