Have any plans to head to northern Alabama anytime soon? You could probably get some pictures of all of the crossings in Birmingham because I've been busily documenting the crossings around Huntsville. I've got a ton of photos to post of crossings on the HMCR.

Well Birmingham isn't northern Alabama.
I do have pictures of a few crossings in Birmingham, But I have no idea when I'll upload them.

Probably should have worded it better.
I'll have to send you my photos for the site. I don't know if you'll accept them or not, but I can say that I tried.
Sorry about derailing the topic (no pun intended).

Damn It I can't say it

LOL. That house there next to the signal has bars on the windows, a refrigerator on the front porch. People hanging around everywhere. Anybody feel like running over there and grabbing a few pictures of that signal?

http://www.rxrsignals.net/California/A- ... le/Nashua/
Anybody remember those? I followed the line farther and found an abandoned bridge:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... a&t=h&z=19
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... -3.51&z=19
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... -0.68&z=19
Along with this a little bit farther:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... .3,,0,5.17
Look at this gate mechanism:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 5,,1,11.99
It also has a WCH E-bell!
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 5,,1,11.99
The other signal has a mechanical bell with a rusty gong:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,,3,-22.45
This gate mechanism appers to be in worse shape:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 34,,2,5.19
I'm surprised this sign is still there:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 62,,2,2.97
Another crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 04,,0,8.39
WCH 12x20 lights:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 4,,2,-1.49
Both signals have rusty bells:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,,3,-22.03
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,,3,-12.07
And rusty gate mechanisms:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... .18,,2,7.7
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 5,,1,14.85
Yet another crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 08,,0,6.24
Rusty triangle gates on both of the signals:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 23,,2,7.92
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 9,,1,12.24
One of the lights is missing with exposed wires!
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 55,,3,0.43
Rusty bell:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 4,,3,-16.1
And WCH 12x20 lights:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 11,,2,4.86
This signal has 8" lights:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 52,,2,0.45
Self explanatory:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 97,,0,4.97
Rusty bell:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 8,,3,-5.68
WCH 8" lights?
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 7,,2,-1.49
The tracks have been paved over:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 3,,0,16.48
The only thing left at this crossing is the relay case:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 83,,0,4.39
Close-up of the relay case. You can see the emergency information on the side.
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 47,,2,4.52
Abandoned pedestrian crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 7,,1,23.65
This is all that is left of this crossing:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 1,,1,14.58
These signals appear to be in good shape:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,,0,0&z=20
This gate mechanism isn't very rusty:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,8.43&z=20
This light appears to be quite rusty:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 25.86&z=20
Same with this bell:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 18.12&z=20
And this gate mechanism is quite rusty:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,4.34&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,6.63&z=20
Rusty bells:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 10.85&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 11.38&z=20
And rusty gate mechanisms:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,6.62&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 10.03&z=20
End of the line. This section is also cut-off from the rest of the track:
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... 13.75&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,4.29&z=20
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=merrit+s ... ,9.73&z=20

Looks like you can find traces of the line as far as
this former crossing.

You don't often see a rail trail with that much track left behind! Pretty neat area there.

That's pretty crazy. I wonder if they did that intentionally to preserve the railroad flavor of the area, or if they just forgot them, or if they were private spurs on land off-limits to the trail developers?
