Go all the way back to 2007... things there look a little different... and the cantilever makes sense!

The "cables" are now underground. Probably wasn't like that originally though. That transformer is providing power to the signal, so they just wired it up from the bottom whenever they buried the cables.

Pedestrian crossing with signals in Quincy, Massachusetts.

There is another set of signals to the left for access to other side of the parking lot, and even further left a 3rd set of signals for the entrance road to where we are at. It looks to me like all 3 crossings are tied to one relay box. Wonder if they all activate at the same time?

Possibly, but it ain't always the case.
For example,
Whitesburg Drive and Blanda Drive here in Huntsville are tied into the same relay case and activate at the same time. However,
Heart of Huntsville Drive and
Monroe Street are tied into the same relay case, but each one activates separately.

Saw this rather interesting crossing in person in Stuart, FL over the weekend. Has traffic lights attached to the cantilevers on both sides. Also notice the "advanced warning crossbuck" on the right.

Also a little further down south in Jupiter, FL... this large crossing with a bridge cantilever, 24 pairs of lights and 7 mechanical bells! Wish I could have stuck around to see and hear this one go off...

That looks to be the Florida East Coast railroad, they liked to use a lot of mechanical bells at their crossings.
Someone really needs to record the second crossing though!

I also just noticed that 2nd crossing appears to have 2 relay cabinets... one on each side. Maybe because of it's size? I also assume the traffic lights are integrated with the crossing... so that might be why as well.

Also... if you look closely, each of the signals are numbered.
