I think he was talking about the bell, but lights flashing at a slightly faster speed at the start is something rather common with older flasher relays, especially on crossings upgraded to LEDs.

One of the EBA E-Bells on this crossing sounds a bit out of pitch.
Also a weird sounding bell also in The Netherlands.
Also a mechanical bell that seems to be having some trouble with its rate of speed.
It seems that said mechanical bell has now died.

A rather unusual sounding yodalarm, and some bad deactivation relays too. The alarms tone goes lower when the barriers raise for some reason.

Sounds like my RACO bell, and the one that was installed in Cherokee, AL sometime within the past couple of years.
Wonder if the hammer is slightly worn on it?

Sounds like it must have been a common design flaw with RACO bells. Do Griswold bells have this issue as well?
