I wonder how much more NS spends just to have taller masts.

I don't get the point for taller masts, unless the signal has a taller gate to go with it...are they just picking up random parts and throwing things together?

I honestly I have no clue. I think it's usually due to long gates though.

This crossing is in Australia. It seems rather odd to have this sign at a crossing with signals, it's also back a long way from the track https://www.google.com/maps/@-33.357094 ... 6656?hl=en

Those signals have been there since the 1980's so I'm not sure why they put the signs up.

The other signal is operating and the relay case is open, so I guess the maintainer turned on the crossing to see if anything on the fallen signal worked.

I like these advance warning signs with the steam locomotive on them. There used to be lots of them in Australia but they don't seem to use them very often now.
