What's interesting about them?

Actually, they are PEEK heads according to further research, but the 8 inch signals appear to be Crouse-Hinds Art-Deco signals.

The first link is a 3-section flashing yellow arrow (FYA) head. Southbound traffic will never have a dedicated protected left turn phase. This arrow would be the one that flashes, basically saying, "go when it's safe". The second link is the 4-section FYA that most are familiar with, and will provide a protected left turn phase for northbound traffic.

It's not that though, i just find the setup of those signals confusing, why use a three aspect FYA on one side while you use a traditional FYA on the other side?

I agree that a R-Y-flashing Y turn signal doesn't make sense, but it's there to allow traffic to turn left if it's clear and the main light is red, in the instance that the opposite side has a green arrow but no traffic going straight.

Quite odd to see signals placed far from the intersection, but this is a massive construction area, so i guess its just for visibility purposes.
