i sure hope so because the only black and white pairs of wishbone gates left in america are in railroad museums

Found some information on the ARTC website and they are doing "boom gate upgrades" on two crossings near Geelong in October.

From what I can understand, it seems the affected crossings are Canterbury Rd, Lara and School Rd, Corio. Both crossings currently have Westinghouse gate mechs which will most likely be replaced by WCH mechs

That particular signal doesn't seem to be having much luck with any kind of bells, will be interesting to see what replaces the hybrid.

Well we can add another dead Safetran Type 3 to the list! This time, it’s at King St, Paterson, NSW. After seeing a video on Facebook showing it was dead, I went to see for myself and sure enough it is. The bell in question is an older model Type 3 on this signal which originally had a WCH m-bell.

It’s been dead for at least a month and the crossing is now completely silent once the gates lower and the other (newer model) Type 3 shuts off. It was installed in November 2017 and hasn’t even lasted a year which is just another example of Type 3s poor reliability!

Paterson was a really nice crossing until it was ruined with those Safetran Type 3's, hopefully the dead one will be replaced by an m-bell, although ARTC don't seem to be in a hurry.

From a marketing perspective, maybe Siemens could change the name of their bells to a Railroad Crossing Pole Ornament, I can see the TV commercial now, "call in the next five minutes and we'll send you a second ornament absolutely free!"

What a great idea, at least they’d be useful for something! I can just imagine the many customers flocking to their phones

It's surprising that they haven't altered the remaining bell to ring for the whole time, maybe it's a sign that they do intend to replace the dead bell. If they do install another m-bell then I would certainly like to film the crossing.

The type 3's are not just ornaments but are also exercise equipment, the signal maintainers would be getting plenty of exercise by climbing up & down ladders to replace the dead ones
