Located between NE of Des Moines on a remaining UPRR spur line to Bondurant, IA. Formerly this was a CNW line that went up to Marshalltown but that segment was abandoned in the 80's. The line is currently in Class I status, however the state of Iowa and City of Bondurant are wanting to save the line as the city wants the line for expected future use. Interesting thing is though, even though it is UPRR trackage it seems that IAIS uses it... as there is motive power for them on the line occasionally, and the signals installed at one of the crossings in town have a setup with a gate light on one of them. UPRR does not use that around here, but IAIS does.

That line looks pretty desolate and many sections of track and heavily overgrown. Do you know roughly how many trains use it per month?

Andrew - Unfortunately I don't. Nor has the state rail commission updated the status of all abandonments on their website for well over a year now.
http://www.iowarail.com previously was updating abandonment information quarterly up until last year. They had an update in April, and one in September, and that's been it since then.

Of 2008, that is.

Yeah... I agree. I think it an out of service crossing. Odd placement on the bell though.

yes. That line is out of service. There's a exempt sign on the closest signal when you load up. As for the bell on the relay case, few of those have been spotted on this forum. From the look of it, looks like a Safetran.
