Some flat sounding bells

I almost wonder if some of these "cowbell" sounding bells are due to the gong not having been rotated, and so the hammer struck it until it cracked...

This General Signals Type 1 is having a hard time sounding, while the other GS type 1 seems to be working fine.

I think it has to do with the humidity in the air at the time. Newer videos of the crossing show the bells working fine again:

Also, I've noticed that GS Type 1s that sound like this only ever seem to crop up in Michigan. I kind of wonder why....

I personally think that in the case of the Type 1s in Michigan, it might have something to do with the climate and how the bells there are required to ring while the gates are down.
