I honestly have to wonder why the line is OOS, given the condition it's in (the dilapidated signals not withstanding).

Also, as a side note, looking at street view, at least four of the mini-bells in the Auburn area are now gone.

A video my drc930 shows that the mini bells in Auburn have been replaced with WCH 0333s

As for the reason that the lower road is OOS, once passenger service ended and the yard is Brunswick closed, there was no need for the lower road because of the existence of the back road. Last train was in the 1990s, although a rerouted train went through in 2005 once iirc, and a Maine Eastern special in 2008. No trains can run on it now due to a removed bridge in Brunswick.

Also I went through Augusta today, and the signals at Bridge Street have been removed

The signals at Winthrop Street in Augusta have also been removed, most likely due to the construction that was in downtown

Is the mini bell a eastern thing? Do you think there is any on the west coast? Thanks!

Back on the MEC lower road, updated streetview for Maple St shows a development project underway. This is the site of old paper mills, and development projects have been tried before, and it looks like this is is working.
One piece of good news. The renderings show that they won't build over the ROW, so the line could still be opened if rails to trails doesn't get their way.

One odd change to the crossing though. The WRRS mini bell has been replaced with a Safetran mechanical bell for some reason.

I think I found one on Poplar Hill Rd in Waldorf, MD. On the CSX Herbert Subdivision.

That's a Safetran Hybrid bell. Nice 90s Conrail install though!
