Very! I understand why they had to do it that way... really no other option. But, they could have made the cantilever a little longer and angled it so it was more in the middle of the crossing instead of off to the side.

Google caught the Furlong Road crossing in St Albans, VIC active twice, shortly before it was removed as part of the Andrews Government's 'Level Crossing Removal Program'.
Looks like the area to the right used to be a fenced off parking area... and is now a driveway going right by where the old cantilever was. Maybe they were concerned it could have gotten hit?
