Interesting, I never knew that doghouses were rare in DC.

By the way, it appears that gray is the standard signal color in DC, and not black.

This is where the doghouse posted by David was. It was replaced by a standard Durasig head, which is not painted black at all but looked fairly new based on how reflective it was:

And here it is today, blending in with the rest of the signals.

Battleship gray used to be DC's standard color for signals, seems they're swapping to black now though...
I honestly thought that DC's signals were colored as such just due to age and faded paint.

By the way, I have always remembered DC's pedestrian signals having the walk indication flash, even before they got countdown signals. That was one thing that stuck out to me when I was there in 2001 compared to pedestrian signals down here.
Ah yes, the good-old "dancing man" indication. They did that as a trial run for the MUTCD (it didn't get adopted), and it was done to remind pedestrians to be on the look-out for any turning cars.
Do you have any images of this?
Here's a video of one:

Here's one in Monticello, IN that also has a flashing walk signal. To make it even better, it's an old Wait-Walk signal!

Pretty much. I also added another flashing walk indication video to my previous post.

I guess DC adopted into their standards, because even the countdown signals there do the "dance."

On the subject of dancing man signals... have y'all seen this from a few years back?

Ah yes, that's one of those "park-and-ride" ferries to get across the water where there's no bridge. I've seen some of those in the past.

I've been on one of them! Got to ride one from Vancouver to some island nearby.

Here are some classic signals on the Y-Bridge in Zanesville, Ohio.

https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9406183 ... !1e1?hl=en
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9404315 ... !1e1?hl=en
------------------------
Here is an old disused lift bridge, trains still use this bridge but the bridge itself no longer operates, at least I don't think it does! I wonder when the bridge was installed and when it ceased to operate, it appears that the canal that the bridge travels over might have been used to get around the dam.

Just some old incandescent 12 inch Kentron/T-con/Econolite signals, so some would debate on them being considered "classic".
