Appears that the cantilever protects both sides of the crossing and the old US&S wigwag just functions as a bell only signal as the lights on the cantilever are the only lights at the crossing and the sign on the cantilever is double sided. This passive crossing in St Maries, Idaho doesn't have those shield things, that is unusual in Idaho.

Both of those have US&S/WABCO 12x20 inch lights and US&S mechanical bells as well!
