Gate saver doesn't work, turns the whole mech. to the side when the gate rises it hits the cantilever causing the EGM to trip and lower the gate again.

Wow, that's an awesome video Kight.

Look, some dumb@$$ ran into one of my favorite crossing's gates:

You know what's really sad, the maintainers just worked on this gate a couple months ago. It's pretty lucky not to have snapped off.

Cheers,
Joshua

Them stupid A$$ fabricated adapters SUCK, they don't break cleanly. We use cast adapters
Image Although if you use a fiberglass gates it will snap in the wind.
Heres is wind damage, Note which gate held up better, also the pictures need to be opened in a new tab, I kept the pictures original sizes.

Now, this is why I'm glad Iowa law states signals have to start up a minimum of 25 seconds from the train fouling a crossing. Although if she wasn't paying attention, no amount of warning time would have kept her (and by positioning - the cameraman) from getting struck.

Federal law is MINIMUM :20 from activation, to reaching the crossing. Most Railroads I know of set the approaches up to activate at :30 to :35 seconds at maximum timetable speed, as do I. You get some contractors doing installs on shortlines and such, falsely claiming 480' is good for 10MPH, or that 1220' is good for 25 MPH, etc., -and it is not. You might get MINUMUM warning time at ideal conditions, but let a little rust, grease, sand, etc. be on the rails and take a couple of seconds to shunt, and you have an activation failure due to not acheiving the Federal minimum Warning time.
